A candle used for prayer should still be treated with ordinary prudence. Light it with intention, watch it carefully and extinguish it before leaving the room.
The first burn
Allow the wax to melt evenly across the surface on the first burn. This helps the candle burn more evenly in later use.
Trim the wick
Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each lighting. A trimmed wick helps keep the flame steady and the vessel cleaner.
Burn safely
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep candles away from drafts, curtains, books, linens, children and pets. Do not burn a candle longer than four hours at a time.
When to stop burning
Stop using the candle when only a small amount of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. Do not burn all the way to bare glass or metal.
