Questions, answered

Can these be used on an altar?

No, and we want to be clear about it. Our candles are scented devotional candles for the home. The Church asks that altar candles be of a high percentage of pure beeswax and unscented; ours are a coconut-and-beeswax blend made for the domestic church, the prayer corner, and the family table. Light them where you pray at home, not on the altar.

What are they made of?

A coconut and beeswax blend, a clean phthalate-free fragrance, and a lead-free cotton wick. No paraffin. Each one is hand-poured in small batches in Carnegie, Pennsylvania.

Why are some candles only available certain times of year?

The seasonal candles follow the traditional liturgical calendar. Each is poured in a small, limited run for its season, Rorate for Advent, Requiem for the Holy Souls in November, and Candlemas in February. Once a season passes, that candle rests until the next year. The four core candles—Sanctuary, Mater Dei, Vigil, and Chrisma—are intended to remain available year-round once released.

How should I care for my candle?

On the first burn, let the wax melt all the way to the edge; it sets the memory of the pool. Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before each lighting, never burn more than four hours at a time, and keep the flame away from drafts and out of the reach of little ones.

Do you take custom or memorial orders?

For larger occasions, such as a parish event, a funeral, or a milestone, we sometimes take custom and memorial orders. Write to us with the details and timing and we'll tell you honestly whether we can help.

Order timing

Incensum candles are currently hand-poured to order.

Please allow approximately 2–3 weeks for your candle to be poured, cured, packed, and prepared for shipment. Carrier transit time begins after the order leaves the Incensum studio.

Questions about an existing order may be sent to hello@incensumhome.com. Include the order number when available.
